Moonset

by antlady69 @ Thursday, Jul. 02, 2009 - 06:33:58

Finally, I pulled out the ol' tripod and took some photos of the setting moon.  Problem then was of course to focus properly in the dark of the night.  Haven't mastered that yet

Excellent - well done :)

Thanks, Marian! Missed it last night, fell asleep too early

This is good. Well done for doing it.

Thanks! They're still far from being as good as many of the moon photos I've found on the web but hey, we can't all be perfect, right? ;D

Good efforts. Focussing in the dark can be tricky. If nothing else is around, the only choice is to do as many trial shots as it needs, and don't choose too wide an aperture. If you're lucky there might be a distant light or something you can focus on instead.

If you focusing on the moon the aperture is irrelevant with regard to depth of field.

Great photos - far better than anything I can come up with :) I love the colour too. I've seen the waxing moon during the day around 5pm in a blue sky but not at night.

Focussing should be no problem at all. Just bung it on infinty, problem solved. If your camera won't let you focus manually, go into 'scene' mode and choose landscape, usually via the little mountain icon.

These are lovely. Fantastic colour. I think they are in focus just a little dark. You could try cropping the image it might help.
