Not a winner but I hope this shows the elements I was trying to capture.

Still Life
'The Itchen Way'
I've finally managed to edit and cobble together the photographs I took on my epic walk from Southampton to Winchester. They can be viewed by following the link below. I've put them together to be viewed as a slide-show, full screen and with captions. If you've got a couple of spare minutes have a look. I'd appreciate any comments, other than that there are too many in the set as I realise more editing needs to be done.

My still life picture
This is my still life picture,Natalie had run a bath and a foam heart shaped itself in the middle of the bath?
Thought it was quite cool!

Taken whilst in the beautiful city of Bath recently. I went for a walk round on my first evening, and found the feat of architecture that is The Royal Crescent.
New Photography Group Challenge - Still Life
Davidjohn suggested that a challenge to reinvigorate this group might be a good idea. He has started one on watery landscapes here:
I thought a second challenge might be a good idea, so my suggestion is Still Life:
This means a photograph of a small number of objects in a pleasing arrangement.
It's as simple as that! Anyone of any level of skill can have a go with any sort of camera: just take a new picture of one or more small-ish objects and post it. There are no prizes, this is just a bit of fun.
I suggest the same 7-day limit as David. So, what do you all think - good idea or not?
Cheers, Tom.

Itchen Way. Shadows.
Here's a taster for an upcoming deluge of phototgraphs I took yesterday whilst waliking the 'Itchen Way'. That being a walk between Southampton and Winchester along the Itchen Navigation, (dissused canal) and Itchen river. It's shown as taken and as you can see the highlights are completly burned out, but with a little tarting about on photoshop I should be able to save it.

Playing with shadows
The light at the lake yesterday was really intense, and the shadows sharp.
I had a lot of fun with my camera trying to photograph the birds and the shadows they cast.
I was pleased with this one. ![]()
Not so pleased with this one as you cannot really see the shadows and reflections so well as the wind was causing ripples on the lake surface and blowing me and the camera about quite a bit too. ![]()
This was an accident bonus.
I was snooping on the heron as he was preening on his Island in the middle of the lake and when I got home I noticed you can clearly see the shadows of the reeds across his shoulders (do heron's have shoulders?).

Derelict pit houses
I had reason to pass through an ex mining village in South Yorkshire today and came upon this row of pit houses which are still waiting for demolition.
The light wasn't very good and using my little digi camera they are not the best of pics but if you enlarge them you can see the dereliction more.
A penny for your thoughts !
Another title for this might be 'Whistling in the wind!' Have you any thoughts?
I said to the man "you have to a bit desperate to sit outside in the freezing temperatures playing" [I thought it was a flute but it's more like a penny whistle]. He nodded agreement.

Derelict - Montgomery Castle
I was looking through some pictures on my PC, and found this one which fits the subject so well. It was left on top of this hill overlooking the town of Montgomery, and nature was allowed to take over for several centuries.
The wooden bridge is a recent addition - I think for the benefit of visitors.
LOCK UP YOUR BIKE
Derelict- Zennor Quoit
This is Zennor Quoit. Abandoned about 4,000 years ago apart from a 19th Century farmer who started trying to convert it into a rough stable. Fortunately he was persuaded to desist and it now provides temporary shelter to the derelict in the photo.
Clarification on Photography Laws in UK
There was an e-petition on this last year. It has now been answered:
http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page17959
"Thank you for your e-petition asking for clarification of the law on photography in public places.
There are no legal restrictions on photography in public places. However, the law applies to photographers as it does to anybody else in a public place. So there may be situations in which the taking of photographs may cause or lead to public order situations, inflame an already tense situation, or raise security considerations. Additionally, the police may require a person to move on in order to prevent a breach of the peace, to avoid a public order situation, or for the person’s own safety or welfare, or for the safety and welfare of others.
Each situation will be different and it would be an operational matter for the police officer concerned as to what action if any should be taken in respect of those taking photographs. Anybody with a concern about a specific incident should raise the matter with the Chief Constable of the relevant force"
That basically told us what we already knew.
Cheers, Tom.

Also derelict?
Another one taken with this blog in mind. I think that this tree trunk could be considered to be derelict.

This is an old ruined chapel in Cornwall taken late on a December afternoon. It has a strange atmosphere. The decay inside has left strange patterns on the walls. The third photo shows the gorse in full bloom outside.
