'The Itchen Way'

by dennypoos @ Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 - 07:55:45

I've finally managed to edit and cobble together the photographs I took on my epic walk from Southampton to Winchester. They can be viewed by following the link below. I've put them together to be viewed as a slide-show, full screen and with captions. If you've got a couple of spare minutes have a look. I'd appreciate any comments, other than that there are too many in the set as I realise more editing needs to be done.

New Photography Group Challenge - Still Life

by SeasideMan @ Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 - 20:28:32

Davidjohn suggested that a challenge to reinvigorate this group might be a good idea. He has started one on watery landscapes here:

http://photographygroup.blog.co.uk/2009/01/27/the-blog-is-quiet-perhaps-we-need-a-new-challenge-5457999/

I thought a second challenge might be a good idea, so my suggestion is Still Life:

This means a photograph of a small number of objects in a pleasing arrangement.

It's as simple as that! Anyone of any level of skill can have a go with any sort of camera: just take a new picture of one or more small-ish objects and post it. There are no prizes, this is just a bit of fun.

I suggest the same 7-day limit as David. So, what do you all think - good idea or not?

Cheers, Tom.

The blog is quiet; perhaps we need a new challenge !

by davidjohn @ Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 - 17:39:40

If nobody has a better idea 'sea or river' views might be a suitable challenge.

Playing with shadows

by QueeneMab @ Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 - 23:57:41

The light at the lake yesterday was really intense, and the shadows sharp.

I had a lot of fun with my camera trying to photograph the birds and the shadows they cast.

I was pleased with this one. :>>

DSC05309

Not so pleased with this one as you cannot really see the shadows and reflections so well as the wind was causing ripples on the lake surface and blowing me and the camera about quite a bit too.

DSC05315

This was an accident bonus.

I was snooping on the heron as he was preening on his Island in the middle of the lake and when I got home I noticed you can clearly see the shadows of the reeds across his shoulders (do heron's have shoulders?).

Derelict - Montgomery Castle

by rithompson @ Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 - 20:17:49

Montgomery Castle

I was looking through some pictures on my PC, and found this one which fits the subject so well. It was left on top of this hill overlooking the town of Montgomery, and nature was allowed to take over for several centuries.

The wooden bridge is a recent addition - I think for the benefit of visitors.

Clarification on Photography Laws in UK

by SeasideMan @ Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 - 15:55:46

There was an e-petition on this last year. It has now been answered:

http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page17959

"Thank you for your e-petition asking for clarification of the law on photography in public places.

There are no legal restrictions on photography in public places. However, the law applies to photographers as it does to anybody else in a public place. So there may be situations in which the taking of photographs may cause or lead to public order situations, inflame an already tense situation, or raise security considerations. Additionally, the police may require a person to move on in order to prevent a breach of the peace, to avoid a public order situation, or for the person’s own safety or welfare, or for the safety and welfare of others.

Each situation will be different and it would be an operational matter for the police officer concerned as to what action if any should be taken in respect of those taking photographs. Anybody with a concern about a specific incident should raise the matter with the Chief Constable of the relevant force"

That basically told us what we already knew.

Cheers, Tom.

Anyway yes, around here in Portugal since November the Winter is really a bit strange as it is rare to snow around here, only sometimes at Serra da Estrela and few others places on the mountains, North...not like this all over the country...these ones are near my town, Lisbon/Lisboa, which is really unsual and rare, especial snow storms! I was fortunate enough to catch the snow storm coming and photographing it! I've others photos, amazing ones, yes like these ones on the countryside, but lovely and i'l post here as well on my blog next days :)
Hope you like it,
Thanks,
Hugs2U all,

Something old

by foxhat @ Thursday, Jan. 01, 2009 - 09:01:05

This is an old ruined chapel in Cornwall taken late on a December afternoon. It has a strange atmosphere. The decay inside has left strange patterns on the walls. The third photo shows the gorse in full bloom outside.Cornwall dec 2008 004Cornwall dec 2008 005Cornwall dec 2008 007
