Sat among the cinders,
Warming her pretty little toes.
Her mother came and caught her,
And whipped her little daughter,
For spoiling her nice, new clothes.

Stop-motion loveliness
Here are a couple of short videos showing the effects that can be achieved using stop-motion photography, with a short depth of field setting and tilt-shift lenses...
I love the way that an almost 'world-in-miniature' effect can be achieved...

Walls have ears
Blands Cliff, a steep cobbled street built in the 1760's by the Quaker merchant John Bland leads from the main town of Scarborough down to the sea. Professional artists began the project of painting murals on the walls in 2002 and will be continuing over the next few years, adding more paintings and sculptural work, helping to regenerate the old town of Scarborough.

Safe as houses ?
When I was a child I recall my Father repeatedly saying ' It's safe as
houses'.
That statement would be ironical now in the new straightened economic circumstances.
More new images taken in London are posted on my web site seen by clicking here and going to the London tab.

Photographers Rights
I was prompted to make this post by a comment that jenray made on my blog here. This is as good a time as any to remind photographer’s again of their rights. As long as you’re on public property or a public highway and you aren’t behaving so as to cause a breach of the peace or obstructing the highway, then you are legally entitled to photograph almost anything or anyone you like. A tripod has been construed as an obstruction in the past.
There are some restrictions regarding some public parks and squares and some particularly sensitive buildings that you should be aware of. Photographing police officers is perfectly legal. See this:
No-one has the right to ask you to delete any images, and your equipment can only be confiscated if you are arrested by a police officer. If you are on private property such as a shopping centre, you can be asked to leave the premises, but they may not confiscate your equipment, may not ask you to delete pictures and may only use “reasonable force” if you resist their demands and/or continue photographing.
But having said all that, some sense is required. If you stand on the pavement with a 300mm telephoto lens shooting into a children’s playground, you can expect trouble.
This site has a good summary of the legal situation:
http://www.urban75.org/photos/photographers-rights-and-the-law.html
This is the UK Photographer’s Rights website (they have a very useful pdf summary of the situation):

Two lonely clouds..LOL
Hi to everybody...here's today's sky outside...just two lonely little clouds against a lovely blue sky...an Indian summer at last...
They were actually sort of sandy coloured but couldn't catch that...now they've gone completely...there's a few daubs of grubby cloud now..HLOL...very strange...

Great big hugs...

That's what it was called. I assume it was a folly as there did not appear to be any special use for it.
Peaceful Sunday

Hi to everybody...looked out of the window about half an hour ago and thought the clouds looked really lovely so snapped them...they've gone now and become bigger and less defined...click on it to see larger image...

The Leaves Fall More Swiftly....

Autumn is the eternal corrective, it is ripneness and colour and a time of maturity;
but it is also breath and distance.
Indeed Autum is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.....
" Thy bounty shines in autumn unconfined and spends a common feast for all that lives.
The Widgeon...Brought a smile to my face!!!

Prefer ducks to pigs!!!(private joke)
No jokes about eating duck....I'll be highly offended!!!!
An insight to know that they feed on "Lotus" seeds and water vegetation.
Plaque
I took these yesterday at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in Watford. For those who have not seen Dam Busters (where the hell have you been) this is where the testing was carried on the explosive used in the dam duster raid, has the plaque states.

Berry Tasty!
Pyracantha or Firethorn is a very popular shrub that grows in abundance. Usually the berries are red dark orange or even yellow. I've never seen these colours before.
I wonder if the birds like them just as much?
I always thought that the pyracantha's berries were poisonous but the fact is, they are entirely edible and there is at least one recipe I've discovered for pyracantha jelly.
If you have a surplus of pyracantha berries and can pick them before the birds rob you of them, you might enjoy the taste of pyracantha jelly. I’m told it is quite tasty, much like apple jelly in appearance and flavour.
Here it is for you aspiring cooks:
To extract the juice, boil pound of berries in 3/4 cup of water for one minute. Strain the juice through clean cloth. To one cup juice, add one teaspoon lemon juice and package powdered pectin. Bring it to hard boil; add 3/4 cup sugar and continue boiling for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Pour into hot, sterilized jars.

Sunday was perfect.
I know, it rained all day in most parts of the UK, in Glasgow it was a perefect day in Rouken Glen park.

More up to date images of the North York Moors Railway will be posted at www.lochnessimages.com
It is well worth visiting and travelling on this railway and giving it your support.
Moon Over The Sea
Sorry about the poor composition of this picture and the wonky horizon, but the only way I could take it was with my camera balanced on a post for 8 seconds and so I didn't have much directional control. But it does at least show how clear the night is and how bright the moon. It gets bigger if you click on it.
Cheers, Tom.
Ancient sounds: That have always been.....

Waves flow through me bringing flowers into bloom, in sunlight and gentle rain,
Warming the damp earth, filling the pockets of darkness until they turn inside out and seeds fall, germinate, send shoots to the stars which burst into showers of gold,..........

Set the night sky aglow, then drift into butterflys waltzing with the petals, billowing in summer breezes..........

rest in ferns by the wondering stream, murmuring among stones
ancient sounds that have always been
always will be.
A colourful rug
I posted this on my blog the other day and someone said I should post it here .

For Davidjohn on Credit Crunch
Credit Crunch
Is not something you can eat for lunch.
Wish it were I'd eat a bunch.
Instead I am reverting to my mums ways.
Making a joint last several days.
Roast on Sunday Oh! what a thrill.
Cold meat on Monday with mash as well.
Tuesday a shepherds pie (if you're lucky with cheese).
Wednsday my favourite rissoles, gravy, yes please.
Thursday there's no meat on the bone.
But even that does not just get thrown.
In to a pan with carrots and swede
Onions too just what we need.
I have started to do this on a regular basis.
It saves me some money and puts smiles on faces.
My children all seem to be coming back home.
They love all the dinners I can produce from just one.
Just a quickly penned poem did it in the last 10 minutes so not my best.
I will try a photo too
Sahara Desert: Morocco

THE DESERT AND SPIRITUALITY:
The desert has a strong relationship with spiritual quests.
The desert itself invokes images of vast expanse, where man may be alone to commune with the higher power and forces of nature.
For the "Sufi poet Rumi" poetry about the desert was an allegory for a spiritual quest of the soul journeying into the infinite.
" I learned to live for now
I learned to enjoy the beaches
and let life come as it may"
Just a few of my favourites
Just some other pictures of views that I like, comments appreciated....

Credit crunch challenge
I'm sure davidjohn will get lots of fabulous photos for his latest challenge THE CREDIT CRUNCH.... maybe really arty shots of Banks and pictures of the Bradford and Bingley bowler hat logo or whatever.
So before they come flooding in I thought i'd post my hastily arranged take on the credit crunch, snapped ten minutes ago in the room next door
Anybody up for a new challenge ? An image portraying the credit crunch ?
I was trying to write a poem on the credit crunch but am a useless poet when it occurred to me that an image telling the story would be quite tricky and make a good topic for a challenge. If anybody is interested let's give it two weeks and see if any exciting shots appear on the photoblog. Below is my attempt at a poem on the subject; please will somebody else try it.
Depression.
The credit crunch
Not a morsel you can munch
Financial markets pointing down
Serious matter to make you frown.
Both shares and pension
Cause enormous tension
If you've still got money
Spend it quickly on your honey.
If you rely on plastic
And your spending is fantastic
Think it over again and again
For your sanity to retain.
And Another
Another eirie statue taken at Melbourne Hall, think it was just the way the light was catching it and the unusual colour of the stone that attracted me to it.
There are many reasons why
I love sunsets and sunrises and the moon and the stars, some of it is just to do with the beauty of the sky and a celebration of the universe (Yup I am a bit of a hippy I am afraid), some of it is symbolic of my belief I s'pose, so it is a spiritual thing. But at this time of the year when that "winter feeling" descends upon me seeing their beauty is literally a life saver. This week has been the last week when I will see my house in the daylight during the week, next week I will leave in the dark and return in the dark, so to witness such a beautiful and prolonged sunset like last night is a gift from nature that I will treasure.
In other news there is one more day AFTER today to go before the weekend which is disappointing because when I woke up I thought it was Friday. Not sure why I am so disorientated. I have been off site at work twice this week, so perhaps that is what is wrong.
Hope you all have a good day.

And this is where I found myself at sunset tonight so I thought I would share it with you.
Apologies for the image quality, it was taken one handed on my mobile while eating a chocolate dream cake Krispy Kreme Donut with the other hand and it was a trifle windy so there is some camera shake. ![]()
