A Cock and Bull Story

Meaning:
A fanciful and unbelievable tale.

Origin:
Stony Stratford (the stony ford on the Roman road) is located on the old Roman road of Watling Street, now the A5. In the 18th and early 19th centuries - Stony Stratford was an important stopping-off point for mail and passenger coaches travelling between London and the North of England.
The Cock and The Bull were two of the main coaching inns in the town and the banter and rivalry between groups of travellers is said to have resulted in exaggerated and fanciful stories, which became known as 'cock and bull stories'. The two hostelries did, and still do, exist.

Thank you - I like to try and present things a little bit differently

Stony Stratford is in Buckinghamshire.

My first girl friend lived in a thatched cottage near Stony Sratford so I recall seeing both The Cock and the Bull and hearing something to the effect that a story retold in one or other got very distorted !

The Cock is a lovely looking chap. I bet he has a fine harem.

He was really strutting his stuff and had an adoring entourage!

I can believe it. He looks (ahem) cocky.

Here's just a couple from his harem - all of them were beauties!
