It's certainly Autumn here! Wind, rain, dark skies... YAYS!

Same here, but officially it's 5 weeks until Autumn starts. I can't wait for winter!

oooo frostiness! wonder how my camera copes with whiteness, my phone is useless at it
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 10:52
Funny you should mention that as I was talking about this only yesterday. We have a pure white rabbit called Johnny. Red eyes, fangs. My camera is rubbish at taking pictures of him. Helen's new camera is much better and it takes brilliant pictures of him. I think you need a really good camera to take pictures of either white or very dark things.

could use a different setting on camera..?
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 11:13
I've tried everything. I think it's probably because of the small sensor in my compact digital. They are up to 16 times bigger in a D-SLR.

Ahh the gentle waves of summer lapping at the shore.

Hehe - I felt as if I was going to get swept away when I took that bottom one. I was stood in my wellies in about 2 inches of water, but it seemed perilously close.

They are scarily powerful, like proper winter waves. Which is a bit weird as there is very little wind.

White ducks in dark water have beaten me recently turning out ' burnt out ' with little or no feather detail. David.
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 12:13
Yes, that's my problem: no detail in the white bits.
Tom.
All you can do is bracket and under / over expose. That's why I recently took about 1500 shots in 7 days so perhaps 50 or 60 would have a chance of turning out well. David.

I agree, that's what I did with these wave pictures. I take a batch at -1/3 EV, another at 0 and another at +1/3. Like you, I average 200-300 a day.

Great piccys. The sea has been like that in Hastings too. For over a week now, we have been having torrential down pours.
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 12:14
The forecast is good for the weekend, so let's hope it does improve. Even the surfers have been put off today.

Wow, those are amazing, definitely looks like an autumn or winter scene to me--tho' I've very little contact with the sea, mind you.
Though it's overcast now, it is supposed to clear off and be quite hot by the end of the week here, close to 90 F. I hate the hot weather, and unlike most people, rather have it cold and rainy, that boiling hot.
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 12:40
I don't like it that hot either. 65-70 is perfect for me.
Tom.
Love rough seas for photography and to swim in! Nice picture Tom
SeasideMan pro 19/08/08 @ 13:19
Thanks, there are a lot of possibilities provided for photography of the sea. But getting good pictures of it is very difficult for me. I took 300 just to get these 3 and I'm not completely happy with any of these 3 either.

I've just checked a long range forecast, and it should be OK in the 2nd half of September. The upcoming bhol weekend should be mostly OK.
