CISTUS - commonly called Rock Rose

Cistus

Sadly this delicate flower only lasts for one day.

Hmm, not sure about the one day bit, we've got a couple of these, one in the front garden, one in the back and they've tended to flower a bit longer.

They normally appear cause people use dog rose stick to splice new rose growths onto so normally it's because the spliced on rose has died and let the dog rose take over.

I'm getting my flowers mixed up - it's commonly called a rock rose. I'll change the text.

Dunno, does look like the dog rose flowers we've got... I reckon you were right with the name, maybe rock-rose is another name?

Just this minute amended post when I realised my mistake - I do have a dog rose picture too and mixed up the text!

Doh, sorry, didn't mean to cause issues! :D

All poppies seem to be very short lived. I'm trying to recollect the biblical quote about lilies of the field or something similar which relates to the brief moment of flowering of all life but cannot right now. David.

This isn't a poppy but its petals are very tissue-like as is the poppy.

I've some yellow poppy-like flowers which are very similar to yours.

This plant does come in lots of colours - there's one that looks like fried eggs as it's white with yellow dots.
