Hi Ed, possibly some variety of "Heuchera micrantha".

Do sprays of small white flowers come out of it in the summer?

Spot on Joe I looked it up on the web and it's called Palace Purple. Now I know when to pinch some out of mothers garden Thanks a bunch.

I'm pretty sure it's Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' as well. I used to write captions and keyword plants and flowers. Lost count the number of these I did!
