it is growing next to a pond, and is abour 1 1/2 across

I was going to say marsh marigold too - it looks too 'orangey' to be a celandine.

I don't know its name but this flower reminds me my childrenhood. We used to cut it and paint our nails:)

nope, on this one it was just an hndn held shot, the settings are f8 @ 1/250sec with a Sigma 50mm macro lens.
