Fancy a moleskin coat ?

by davidjohn @ Saturday, May. 03, 2008 - 22:39:53

While staying on a farm near Hadrian's Wall last week I saw these animals [corpses] displayed on a fence; not a pretty sight. The farmer said he paid the local mole catcher £3.50 for each animal trapped!

They put traps down the holes using a stick to locate the tunnels; I wasn't shown a trap ! David.

Nobody wants a moleskin coat! At £3.50 each they must be very expensive items of clothing ! David.

Moleskin clothing isn't actually made from the skins of moles!

Is that a fact ? I am astonished to learn this 24 hours after posting the images ! What are they made from ? David.

I only noticed your comment about expensive clothing a long time after you posted this picture.

Moleskin is a manmade fabric with a finish that resembles the smoothness of the skin of moles. As you say it would take a lot of mole pelts to make a coat.
