Do you meditate?

I wish I could, but I find concentration so difficult these days. I suppose I should practice...

I'd imagine when out photographing the beauty shown in existence, out there with nature, the elements and the sun, you're pretty close to a meditative state already, if not already there, and if not, well, perfect time to do it! Sit down in a sunny spot, close your eyes and get in touch with just being, feel existence, and there you go! Sounds tempting even to me! Saying that, t'ai chi is described as meditation in movement - achieving a peaceful calm whilst walking and appreciating this beautiful land is just as beneficial as any other relaxation technique. Breath, relax, enjoy. Hope you do! (Actually, if you've time to read and haven't yet read it, I'd recommend a book by William Bloom, The Endorphin Effect I think it is)

Hope you manage to enjoy being out in the sunshine today Uskers, love and best wishes, Chas.X.

Thanks for that Chas; I'll keep an eye open for that book.

As it happens I'm joining a t'ai chi class next month, so we'll see if that helps. :)

That's lovely Uskers! I love t'ai chi, used to do it many years ago, the principles are a good fundamental basis from which to work. I hope you enjoy it and find it as helpful as I have! Keep us posted!

It's something I've fancied having a go at for a while. I get too fidgety to sit still and concentrate on relaxing and meditating... hope that makes sense. But I've seen folk doing the t'ai chi thing and they all look so peaceful and calm... so I signed myself up. :)

You're right. T'ai chi is very good if you prefer something more dynamic, and I find it more helpful than meditation as a relaxation technique as it helps you to open and release within yourself, moving the energy around the body, releasing pent-up energies which would otherwise have you itching to move, or that can stagnate and lead to illness. The focus of mind, the fluidity of movement, all helps keep the old bods oiled and the inner self soft! Who/what school is it?

Sounds as though I've a lot to look forward to from what you say.

The sessions are running at the local leisure centre - I have a feeling that's not what you meant though...

Hello Uskers. Hope you're feeling well today? So did you go, did you enjoy it, are you going again?

I wondered whether the teacher was connected to the Lam Rim buddhist centre over the water there, or was from the Rising Dragon T'ai Chi school, or another. There are quite a few teachers around now. There was only one school I knew of when I first started, Rising Dragon. Teachers used to speak of the lineage of the school during 'induction'. I think there were two main schools after the 'founding father' (name escapes me) shuffled off his mortal coil, and the styles differ slightly, but I suspect there are more people teaching t'ai chi now, and I wondered if styles had been changed further by teachers 'doing their own thing', if they even speak of it's roots now, or if there are still only two schools.

Anyroad Uskers, I hope you are well. Take care my friend.

Chas.X.

The sessions haven't started yet, but I have signed up... I'll try and find out if they don't tell us on the first session. :)

Hi Uskers. Glad to read that. Hope you'll keep us informed? (Actually I'm a bit intermittent at the moment with available time so I am missing lots of days/weeks of posts. Hopefully I will perchance see how you got on though) Hope you find it enjoyable.

I'll blog the experience... ;)

How lucky was that? And you had your camera ready too.
