Fast On!
Nightime by the Canal
Exochorda x Macrantha.
Variety, "The Bride". Pic taken in 2007. The flowers of this shrub are just breaking through and with its "Gently arching habit and abundant clusters of fragrent pure white flowers" from March through to the end of April, tell you that spring is very near.
Raindrops are falling on the.....leaves of the Japanese Maple, Acer Palmatum

I hate it when people ride these things all over the countryside, cutting up the footpaths... but they do have some interesting lines.

Bumble In Black and White
You know I love Bumbles and they are sadly becoming rarer -here's one I took last year
Yellow Flowers
Taken in the summer last year, have not been doing much photography this year and must try harder....the leaves of this shrub smell of lemons, anyone know what they are called?

My Absence
Hi eyeryone, just a note to bring you up to date with my doings.
I am using a friend's computer to make this short post, because mine is out of action. I am currently in the process of getting my broadband changed to a wireless set up, but that is not the only reason that I haven't been on here.
I am currently decorating my stairs and landing, so the computer has been dismantled temporarily. I have also had some work done on the outside of the house (new guttering and fascia boards) it looks much smarter.
The progress on my daughter's house buying is going at a leisurely pace (the wheels of commerce grind slowly).
Well, that's all I have to say just now, I will catch up with what you are all doing soon, when the wireless network is set up.
Buckie skyline.
Taken late on a December day a view of the skyline of Buckie, Scotland.

Yesterday I got some images of Elgol. Notice the tiny cottage the ultimate get away from it all !

Mysteree
This stunning tree is in my local park -anyone know what it is? it's huge!
London Eye
This photo has been enhanced by the lighting added digitally, sun beam
Pink Peony
Thought it was about time I posted a few photos. I love digital art which I try and create from photographs of mine and sw packages/ This flower head has been given a black background, framed digitally. Peony's have to be my favourite flower, gorgeous, loud, blowsy but far too fleeting.
Bridge
I shoot this yesterday lunch time, I like the contrast in clours between the bridge and green of the trees.

I hope I got the title right, I am sure the Welsh members will correct me if I'm wrong. This is a RSPB site in Wales close to Aberystwyth, where you can see Red Kites. Well worth a visit!

Keep watching the skies
Maybe it is because I spend too much time indoors during the day, but when I am not at work I like to watch the skies, the colour changes and the cloud forms fascinate me oh and of course like many of you I am obcessed with the moon. ![]()
Gas Lamp.
The floodlights had taken the place of the old gas lamp but the vandals had been there.
Gruinard Bay and blowing sands .
A few minutes of sunshine after heavy rain storms produced this colourful shot of sand blowing in the wind.
Road to Ullapool
Just off the road in the rain and mist I captured this image yesterday. Often the mist and rain produce an image with more impact than one in good weather but this required a tripod and long lens.

Burrell Museum, Glasgow.
Sir William Burrell donated his vast collection of over 9.000 objects to Glasgow in 1944, sadly, no suitable site had been identified by Burrell's death in 1958.
The Burrell was purpose built, the result of an architectural competition, and opened in 1983.
You can wander round important collections of medieval art, tapestries, alabasters, stained glass and English oak furniture, European paintings, including works by Degas and Cézanne, an important collection of Islamic art, and modern sculpture including works by Epstein and Rodin. Also on view are a fine collection of works from ancient China, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
Ring of change
Anybody know anything about Dendrochronology? This stump has what seems to be 27 normal growth rings, then one large one before it was chopped down.
relax in memory
So I went to the beach again
My usual policy is not to "cheat" by moving things, but I confess I did stand up the tyre to take this one.
But this one wasn't cheated at all - uncropped and unshopped - a little dark but I like the colours:
Poppy
I took this a few years ago with my mum's Olympus OM10 with a macro lens. I was just farting about, taking piccies of anything that took my fancy. Some people that I've shown this to have been quite impressed.

Seen on a Sunday afternoon jaunt ! Even houses don't go on forever but in all probability the cost of the site is still beyond the reach of most young people.
Birmingham
Good Morning
Took these before and during sunrise this morning.
I like the aura around the moon due to the clouds in the first one.
Both of the next two were taken without flash because I did not want to lose any of the colour. I do not have a tripod, but I think they are not too badly blurred and you can make out her markings reasonably well.
Any tips for improving on the images please.
Simon.
After we put the word around that we were looking for a tom kitten we were given Simon.
Later renamed "Nomis" but actually she was a miss.
The Gateway.
This picture is about life. There is a "Gate" that when that day comes, we can choose to go through from the life that we now have on this side and to enter the unknown on the other side.
Maybe after loss of a loved one, a health problem, a financial problem, or any reason that tells you that a period of your life is ending and a new period is commencing.
Of course we are a little scared, what lies beyond that "Gate"?
The World's Smallest Post Office ?
On a Sunday afternoon's drive I saw this tiny Post Office and just had to stop and photograph it !
Please tell me about smaller ones !
Young Elephant Seals
This was taken on the Island of South Georgia in 1985, before the age of digital cameras. I have scanned and posted it on here for your views. I have loads of pictures from when I was there but it takes for ever to scan them and some are actually stuck in with double sided selloptape (I know I’m a bit of plonker sometimes).
I do wish I could go back with the equipment I have now.

Queens Park, Glasgow.
This photo is taken from a post card and date stamped 24th August 1907.
The park was developed in the late 19th century in response to the increasing population density of Glasgow in general, and the South Side in particular, with the growth of tenement housing supplying the increased demand for middle-class homes. Victorian Glasgow took the provision of open spaces extremely seriously, with the result that parks such as Queen's Park sprang up across the city. From various points of the park, it is possible to view the full expanse of Glasgow in a given direction.
The same view 100 years on.
Copycat at Fountains Abbey
Here is a photography tip from me. When visiting tourist spots, watch other people to see where they are aiming their cameras!
A few years ago at Fountains Abbey, I noticed a man aiming his camera towards a window arch. I waited for him to take his photo and walk away, then I went to see for myself and took this picture

I used my old Canon SLR film camera for this one.
Another thought I have at tourist spots is that I must be appearing unwittingly in other people's photos. There must be albums, memory cards and computers all over the world showing tourist attractions with me and my family and friends wandering somewhere in the view.

I just love going to Covent Garden Market.

Greed
This is the last seafront public house in Seaford which if the owner gets his way will soon be flats. With land at a premium and a push to build homes in the South of England, more of these properties will soon disappear and need documenting.

None of these pictures has been fiddled with in any way at all. They were taken last night just before it got completely dark, using a long exposure to make the sea look weird.

The Fair's Moving On.
All the rides are over and done
It's late and no prizes are left to be won
The rides are closed, it's the end of the day
The horses are moving away
Yes the fair's moving on
And I'll soon be gone
Remember the love that we've known.
The music has ended, the carousel's still
The horses in boxes with the big Ferris wheel
The canvass and glitter are safely on board
The trailers will soon hit the road
Yes the fair's moving on
And I'll soon be gone
Remember the love that we had.
At dawn I'll be gone but I'll soon return
Till then the fair's moving on.

I am a bit proud of this picture taken at The Dams, just to the South of Barrhead, Glasgow.
It was taken in December 2006, late afternoon setting sun, not bad weather for a Scottish winter time.

Strathaven.
It is built around the Powmillon Burn as it flows towards the Avon Water, half a mile to the south. The town takes its name, which is pronounced "Stray-ven", from the Gaelic for what later became Avondale, the valley of the Avon Water.
A stone castle was first built here in the 1300s, probably replacing an earlier wooden structure. By the 1400s Strathaven Castle was a possession of the Black Douglases, and it was amongst their castles destroyed by James II in 1455 when he suppressed this branch of the Douglas family.
The top of the round castle tower can be seen in the centre of the picture.

GHOST POST
Eagle Owl
I am particularly fond of raptors birds of prey are magnificent birds, these are two eagle owls, the largest of the owl family, they are making a come back in some areas of the country after nearly being wiped out a 100 years ago.
Rabbit
Turky Vulture
Turkey Vulture: Not the prettiest bird in the world but the colour and detail of this picture I think is great!
Standalone
Now for a horror movie!
It’s hair-raising!
Also showing: Saturday Night Fever; Paint Your Wagon; and Casablanca
Artic Wolfs
Call of the Wild, I shot this in Berlin Zoo
Artic Wolf
Sunlight through trees
The Lone Piper
Not a great picture background a bit wonky, but it was one of them you have to take it now as it was in a very busy street in the middle of Glasgow where people have a habit of walking in front of you as you try to take a picture!!
Garden visitors
This was originally on my blog, till I deleted it, but it remains one of my favourites purely because this pair of wood pigeons visit our garden together every year and it always brings a smile to my face when I see them
Back to the movies - Casablanca.

Dawn's early light
Up early and saw this from my window, the colours haven't come out all that well, but the sky was beautiful this morning and you could hear the birds calling to each other in the trees.
Forgive the bad quality, though on zoom as the tree is quite a distance away from my house in a field I cannot get access to, and I am quite an amateur at these things

colour within the grit...
Meteora
is a weird place full of strange rock formations. The only way up to these monasteries used to involve being winched up in a basket. Although these days some of them are connected by cable car. It is one of my favourite places in Greece.
Took this photo on the same holiday.
Cute aren't they. I only put it up to irritate Nick. ![]()
I have my eye on you...
Plants & Macro
Am not sure what this flower is called, however, I do like the detail and colour.
The stamen of a Tulip, I was practising my camera’s macro ability, this was my favourite after a number of attempts.
Anyone for Pork ?
Although I am not a veggie I think this is a challenging image !
I tried putting the pig between two slices of bread (Bacon sandwich) but it did not work, it
tasted okay though.
You are what you eat !
Just experimenting
Wanted to figure out how to use the photography group and found this old photo of some little kittens playing with a broom at Delphi about 3 years ago. No doubt they have been responsible for parenting several generations of kittens since then.
If you can't beat them...
...join them.
I can never get my digital Black & White shots quite right... for my sins, I still prefer working with FP4. Oh well... here's a digital attempt.
Feel free to criticise/offer advice please.
Album cover
When I eventually get around to making that album - this might be the cover photo:

Worms & Dragons
When it comes to favourite images, the photographs that really appeal to me tend to be other people's. That said I do have some images I'm very pleased with; I guess you could say this is a personal favourite.
Worms & Dragons
The image was shot on Rhossili Bay and shows the Worm's Head Peninsula with the wreck of the Helvetia (sunk 1887) in the foreground.
I hope you'll like it too.
Motilone Indians of western Venezuela
My father took these in 1948 whilst working in Venezuela it is of two villages of the Motilone Indians of western Venezuela and eastern Colombia. it is deep in the jungle and at that time there were no roads to the interior he told us that when they flew over they would shoot their arrows at the plane..my brother and I have a collection of such arrows..might even post the picture of them if anyone has an interest!!
A bit of Scottish Seaside.
Loch Ness late evening.
This image was captured from the shore of the Loch close to an old Inn specializing in good food and beers.
In warm weather which is somewhat rare in this part of the world people swim in and ski upon the Loch. More images can be viewed at www.Lochnessimages.com.

You have to admire this mans optimism. He is sitting on the steps of a Mercedes showroom.

My Wildlife Pictures
A Scottish Wild Cat, pound for pound the most ferocious in the world, don’t you just love little guys. They are about 50% bigger than a domestic cat. On the endangered list it is estimated that they are only about 400 left in the wild.
Where I live
Spring has sprung
Hmmm...
This is something that always makes me feel good...
As if by magic.
How the hell did I get here!
and what the hell do I do now......
